Selling a business is often the largest financial transaction of an entrepreneur's life, and most owners underestimate how complex it is. Gregory Kovsky, President and CEO of IBA and a broker with 300+ personal transactions, on why so many businesses never sell. At this luncheon, Gregory unpack the realities of business brokerage: why the barriers to entry are too low for what the job demands, the three tiers of communication (articulate, educate, persuade), how to vet a broker the way you'd vet a surgeon, and why 70% of IBA's clients are selling their life's work in a retirement exit that can't be fumbled.
About the presenter
Gregory Kovsky | International Business Associates
International Business Associates, commonly known as IBA, was established in 1975 in Portland, Oregon by a group of experienced business brokerage professionals who believed that they could provide better customer service, market knowledge, transactional experience, and professional representation while maintaining confidentiality and employing best practices than was currently available to the Pacific Northwest business community. On this foundation of experience and principles, IBA has grown into a regional leader successfully facilitating over 4400 business sale transactions involving manufacturing plants; construction companies; automotive, marine, & transportation businesses; wholesale & distribution companies, technology firms, retail businesses, service companies, education platforms, wineries & hospitality businesses, and professional practices out of its 10 offices in Oregon & Washington.
Our primary historical venues for business have been the Pacific Northwest states of Washington, Oregon, Alaska and Idaho; however, our reputation & representation has not been contained by those geographic boundaries with IBA professionals being hired on a consulting basis to negotiate and represent businesses as far east as New York, Massachusetts, and North Carolina and south as California and Arizona. IBA commonly represents sell side clients in transactions with enterprise values of $1 – $30 million.
Gregory Kovsky, the President & CEO of IBA since 2000, has personally facilitated over 300 transactions involving privately held companies. He is recognized nationally for his knowledge & experience as a “sell side” mergers & acquisitions intermediary in the manufacturing, international import, industrial, marine, construction, technology, and horticulture industries and a commonly published author, seminar speaker, podcast guest, and resource for the media. Mr. Kovsky has held a real estate brokers license in one or more states since 1994 and has the ability to comprehensively represent entrepreneurs in the sale of their privately held companies and commercial real estate.
